Garlic vs Zombies

The ability of garlic to repel vampires is well known. So might it also be effective against other undead, for example zombies?

As far as I know there's been no research on this subject, which is surprising given how popular zombies have become recently. However garlic does take on a zombie repelling role in a famous game: Plants vs Zombies.

In Plants vs Zombies by Popcap Games, garlic can be used to divert zombies. It doesn't actually harm them, just diverts them into a different lane when they bite it. So it's not a defence on its own but it can be used as part of your strategy.

So would garlic be effective against zombies in real world? We don't know. But if you don't have a chainsaw handy it might be worth a try...
